The 1,000-Year Family Legacy Trust
The 1,000-Year Family Legacy Trust
The short answer
The Family Legacy Trust is an irrevocable, family-directed trust that your family establishes now, during life, that spans and covers generations of your offspring for 1,000 years. It is not a cheap downloadable form, and it is not a revocable trust-and-will kit that waits for you to die someday. It is a world-class family legacy structure (written stewardship, 1,000 year duration, spendthrift provisions, and family continuity) made accessible to everyday families through the done-for-you single Family Legacy Trust or the $6,500 Dynasty Architecture. It is about stepping into your own private family dominion now, not a list of instructions for when you die.
“And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good.”
A new name for something as old as the family
Long before there were law firms charging $100,000 estate planning fees, there were families keeping private houses. Every household was its own private economy, with its private family covenant and family treasury. Land held within a family line. Blessings were considered property, handed down from father to son. Covenants were everlasting.
The Family Legacy Trust is a new name for that very old thing. We believe it fits a biblical worldview better than any other form of family plan, because it treats the family as what Scripture says it is: a house meant to endure, with each generation succeeding as sacred stewards of the family name, history, legacy, and wealth. A deeply rooted ancestral blessing passed down from you to your offspring’s offspring and their descendants forevermore.
“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children.”
Designed for how you live now
Most trusts are written to end. Most estate plans consist of a last will and trust (revocable), written for when someone dies.
The Family Legacy Trust stands alone. It is specifically designed to be like families themselves were created to be: irrevocable and perpetual. It establishes self-governance and freedom the family can live in now, and generational dominion that outlasts its original founding Settlors, preserving and passing down their legacy and wealth for a thousand years.
Family assets (wealth, a family business, digital holdings, the homestead and land) are moved into the trust now, during your life. From that day on:
- The family lives in covenant. Your family values are written down to be remembered forever. Creativity, work, generosity, education, faith, care for one another: the trust's purpose takes form from your own words and beliefs. The trust instrument becomes the family's private law, a foundation of guidance that connects the founding Settlors to every generation of their offspring in the future.
- The family has a treasury. A private family bank that grows, compounds, lends, and supports, guided by principles you set. Generational freedom from usury.
- Stewardship is taught. Offspring grow up inside a house they will one day help keep, grow, and build. Stewardship becomes a way of being.
- Family dominion continues perpetually. Named successors and a family board of sacred stewards mean the house never goes without a husbandman redeemer and keeper. Your offspring shall never cease to sit upon the family throne.
The Family Legacy Trust is not a document you file away. It's a way of ordering your family's life, affairs, and the household economy. Ensuring everything you build as a family becomes an inheritance and legacy that stays in the family, passed down around the dinner table, not a story to be forgotten.
How does a Family Legacy Trust work?
A trust is a three-party covenant. The founding Settlors transfer ownership of property to the trust in exchange for control as trustees, for the benefit of the family's beneficiaries.
The best thing about a Family Legacy Trust is every family gets to tailor it to perfectly fit their family. Thus, no two Family Legacy Trusts are identical. However, there are core elements and design features that should be in every trust.
The Spacious Place can only address the Family Legacy Trust from the perspective of our architecture. Other models, designs, and provisions that may be available through other specialist firms are not addressed here.
In plain mechanics:
Founding Settlors → assign property into → the Family Legacy Trust → kept by → family trustees → for → every generation of beneficiaries
- The Settlors make a lasting decision. By irrevocable assignment, chosen property leaves their personal names and becomes the trust's property. Ownership moves to the trust. Control and stewardship stay in the family. The Settlors no longer “own” property in their own name tied to their SSN; they are fiduciaries for the family trust.
- The trust stands on its own feet. It receives its own EIN for banking, its own bank account, and a Wyoming trust address. Its accounts and records are kept apart from the family's personal ones. The trust has the authority to take any action necessary that the Settlors would normally take individually to provide for, protect, and steward the family going forward, such as pay bills, buy a house, or add property to the trust.
- Family trustees keep the house. In most families the father and mother serve as the initial trustees, filling all offices and acting as fiduciaries for the family, not as owners. In The Spacious Place design, the trust indenture divides fiduciary duties and powers among four family offices: Ministerial, Investment, Distribution, and the Board of Sacred Stewards. This is added separation of powers protection as the household grows over many generations.
- The Board of Sacred Stewards guards the purpose. Serving as trust protector, the board holds defined powers over situs, amendment, and veto, so the house can adjust across the seasons while no one outside the family can unwrite it.
- Beneficiaries receive by need and principle. Distributions are 100% discretionary. No beneficiary has a right to demand a dollar, and trustees may spray or accumulate among a class of beneficiaries rather than paying set amounts to specific individuals on a schedule. A detailed beneficiary share distribution process handles requests for extras.
- The house does not end with its founders. When a steward steps back, the written succession plan names who steps in. Each generation inherits an office of stewardship, not a lump sum of cash.
Who serves as trustee, and who comes next?
Every trust needs someone to hold title, sign, keep the books, and carry the family's intentions forward. In a Family Legacy Trust, that is the family itself.
- The founding generation. The father and mother serve as the complete initial team of trustees until death or resignation.
- The generations after. Adult children succeed as successor trustees, then grandchildren, and each successive generation of adult descendants steps into the fiduciary roles in turn. Automatic generational succession is written into the trust.
- A safeguard for a young family. The durable family succession plan provides for a contingent, temporary outside successor trustee if no adult beneficiary is yet capable of serving, so the house is never left without a keeper while the offspring grow.
- If the founders divorce or cannot agree. The Divorce, Deadlock and Removal of Settlors Rider addresses what happens if the founding Settlors divorce or can't agree, so a disagreement at the top does not paralyze the household affairs.
- If there are no children yet. The Founder No Descendants Yet Rider uses a Beneficiary Waterfall for the progression of life stages, a future spouse, and failure of issue. A single founder or a married couple with no offspring does not have to wait to begin building their legacy and set up the trust.
“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
What makes it world-class
A Family Legacy Trust from The Spacious Place brings together features long associated with high-end family planning, and combines them with pioneering trust provisions specifically crafted for families building an everlasting house:
- 1,000 year duration. Families are made to last forever. The Family Legacy Trust takes advantage of Wyoming’s best-in-class duration language to ensure that.
- Irrevocable and perpetual by design. Irrevocable assignment language is written to make the family's intent ironclad: the house is not undone by one season or one generation. Perpetual family continuance is written into the trust purpose.
- Family-directed governance. A family board of sacred stewards serving as trust protector, with defined powers to guide and adjust as needed. No outside trustees required. Everlasting family dominion secured.
- Spendthrift and discretionary provisions. Trustees distribute according to need and principle, not on a fixed schedule. Generational protection from outside creditors, lawsuits, and bad actors. No beneficiary can ever assign his or her interests away.
- Family Heritage & Stewardship Rider. Recognizes offspring as an inheritance from God and the material legacy asset of the Trust. Offspring become protected property under the Trust, along with the progenitors’ beneficial interests and rights to the enjoyment, nurture, care, companionship, education, custody, and control to their offspring.
- Generational Wealth Preservation Rider. Outlines generational wealth principles, guidelines, and incentives of the family treasury.
- Generational Spiritual Protection Rider. Addresses aged-stage information rights, creation of a family council for apprenticing, concentrated assets, internal dispute resolutions, and wellness holdback-plus-treatment plans for addiction and illness.
- Family Homestead Rider. Homestead use without ownership, authority for the Trust to purchase and keep homes, land, condos and cabins for the family use instead of “giving an offspring a house.”
- No contest clause. Beneficiaries who take the Trust into a public court are automatically disinherited. Keeps the family affairs private to the family.
- Decanting, Automatic Migration, & Charging Order protection. The board of sacred stewards can pour assets into a new trust, trigger migration of trust domicile to a more favorable domicile upon attack, and no forced liquidation and distribution of assets.
- Digital asset coordinated structure. A Wyoming Digital Asset LLC for families with crypto and digital holdings. A pristine container that includes an Operating Agreement, Custody and Management agreement, Assignment of Interest in Digital Assets to Trust, and a Memorandum of Instructions that specifically addresses unique digital asset and cryptocurrency nuances.
- Your own family trustee. 100% family-controlled and directed board of sacred stewards. In the Dynasty Architecture, your own Wyoming Private Family Trust Company is set up to serve as the perpetual qualified Wyoming trustee: an unregulated LLC with a nexus in Wyoming, separate from any individual family member, so the house never fails for want of a trustee and assets never need to be retitled.
- Heirloom craftsmanship. Wrapped in a stunning American full-grain leather folio embossed with your trust name and private seal, something real to hold and pass down.
- Download the full Charter of Provisions

Also includes the family’s unregulated Wyoming Private Family Trust Company & Digital Asset LLC with its Articles, Operating Agreements, EINs, Wyoming registered agent, and Wyoming Division of Banking Regulation Waiver.
- Sacred Steward resources. Plain-language teaching on operating in trust: transferring property, opening the trust bank account, and writing custom amendments, with step-by-step instructions for executing your trust are made available through the family’s private online dashboard.
- The heirloom folio(s). The whole package is wrapped in full-grain American cowhide on acid-free cotton fiber paper, embossed with your trust name and private seal. The Digital Asset LLC gets its own folio, and the Dynasty Architecture comes with three leather folios, one for each entity. Additional heirloom folio copies are available for $350 each.
How do you fund a Family Legacy Trust?
A trust governs only what it owns, so the house is only as strong as what has actually been moved inside. By asset type:
- Bank and brokerage accounts. Open the trust's own bank account with its EIN and banking resolutions, then move the funds you choose into it. Brokerage accounts are retitled into the trust's name.
- A family business. Business interests and LLC memberships move into the trust by written assignment of the membership interest. The business can also agree to donate 100% of client revenues to its favorite charity of choice, the family trust. The business can keep its own operating accounts, apart from the family treasury.
- The home and land. Real estate moves into the trust directly or, frequently, through an LLC the trust owns. Before moving a home, talk with your lender, county assessor, and insurer. Federal law (12 U.S.C. § 1701j-3) limits due-on-sale enforcement for certain transfers into a trust where the borrower remains a beneficiary, but transfers into an LLC are generally not covered.
- Digital assets and crypto. These are held through a Wyoming Digital Asset LLC that the trust owns 100%. The LLC's membership interest is assigned into the trust, and an Assignment of Digital Assets into Trust records the transfer. Exchange accounts are opened or retitled in the LLC's name where the platform allows entity accounts, and self-custodied holdings move to wallets the LLC controls under the custody agreement.
- Retirement accounts. It is not recommended to retitle retirement accounts into a trust name during life. A better route is to name the trust as the beneficiary instead.
- Everything else. Precious metals, cash, household property, equipment, and any heirloom property the family owns are assigned into the trust.
- Keep the records from day one. Record each contribution: what moved, when, from where, and its cost basis. Keep the trust's accounts and records separate from personal ones. Commingling undoes the very separation the trust depends on.
Why Wyoming, and what does the 1,000 years require?
Under Wyoming Statute § 34-1-139(b), a trust may continue for up to 1,000 years when its trustee maintains a place of business in Wyoming, administers the trust in Wyoming, or is a Wyoming resident. Real property held directly by a trust stays under the traditional rule against perpetuities, which is one reason many families hold land through an LLC that the trust owns or in the name of a completely private trust.
Wyoming also has no state income tax, and it allows a family to form an unregulated Private Family Trust Company, with no statutory minimum capital, to act as a fiduciary exclusively for its own family members (W.S. § 13-5-701). The single Family Legacy Trust includes a Wyoming trust address to keep the Wyoming connection. In the Dynasty Architecture, the family's own Wyoming Private Family Trust Company is set up to serve as the qualified Wyoming trustee.
What it is not
It is not a cheap online download. Fill-in-the-blank online living trusts are widely available. LegalZoom's own pricing guide says you can create one online "for as little as $400." These are typically revocable, built for one lifetime (if that), and designed for simplicity and minimal security. A reasonable product for its purpose; it is simply a different purpose. LegalZoom templates aren’t created to hold family legacies and dynasties.
It is not a revocable trust-and-will template. A revocable trust and will is organized around one person's lifetime and created to pour over property upon death to the next of kin. These are designed for a one-time transfer with no generational succession planning or legacy transfer. The Family Legacy Trust is specifically crafted for families who think generationally and are looking to build a 1,000 year family dynasty.
It is not a $20,000-to-$75,000 engagement. Traditional dynasty trusts through specialist firms commonly cost $20,000 to $75,000 to set up, plus $10,000 to $50,000 a year to administer (Reed Corp). A pricing level and service only built for ultra-high net worth families with $10 million or more in assets. For one published example, Digital Ascension Group (DAG) lists its Strategic Irrevocable Trust at $20,000.
Our model is different. We believe every family should have its own Family Legacy Trust and steward its own family affairs. We offer education, trust architecture design, and done-for-you document preparation for everyday families, for an affordable one-time fee of only $3,000 for a single irrevocable Family Legacy Trust, and $6,500 for our three-in-one Dynasty Architecture. A small annual stewarding fee is optional and available for families who wish to maintain guidance and help.
Between a $599 online template that offers little to no protection and a $50,000 trust estate plan, most families have had no warm or affordable middle path. Fifty-six percent of American adults have no estate plan at all. Among those who are taking action, trust ownership has risen only to about 14% (Trust & Will 2026 Estate Planning Report). Families are choosing trusts. But not enough of them are choosing the right type of trust for preserving their family legacy and wealth forever. The Family Legacy Trust is the premier option for families who wish to build a dynastic family and pass down the family fortune and values to a thousand generations.

When is a single Family Legacy Trust not enough?
The Family Legacy Trust is the house most everyday families need. It may not be the right fit, on its own, when:
- There is land, a family business, or much to steward. The Dynasty Architecture adds the Pass-Through Trust, which keeps the Family Legacy Trust out of public view, and the family's own Wyoming Private Family Trust Company & Digital Asset LLC to deal with banks, bills, and contracts and to serve as the perpetual Wyoming trustee.
- The family holds meaningful crypto or digital assets. The Wyoming Digital Asset LLC (+$589) adds documents written for custody, keys, exchange accounts, multi-signature rights, and wallet architecture.
- The estate is very large or complex. Families at that scale are usually better served by a larger team built for it.
- You want the Family Legacy Trust to remain completely private. The Dynasty Architecture arranges this by keeping the Family Legacy Trust, which contains the legacy succession plans and legacy assets, 100% private and invisible from the public. A Pass-Through Trust is created as a perfect expression conduit of the Family Legacy Trust to set up a bank account and use for titling public assets in the trust architecture. A third layer is utilized as a Private Family Trust Company & Digital Asset LLC to be the trustee of the Pass-Through Trust and deal with the public on all other matters. This model offers maximum privacy.
- You expect to need or want the assets back outright in your personal name. An irrevocable trust is the wrong container for that.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Family Legacy Trust?
A Family Legacy Trust is an irrevocable, family-directed trust that is designed to hold and steward family assets for generations. The Bible calls it an everlasting covenant. Using Wyoming law, qualifying trusts can last up to 1,000 years. The Spacious Place uses the name for a perpetual family trust built around family legacy, written stewardship and family continuity.
Is a Family Legacy Trust a new kind of trust?
The name is new; the idea is old. Legally, it is an irrevocable trust using best-in-class established American trust law, including long-duration and spendthrift rules. What is distinctive is its purpose: a multi-generational family legacy house with the family's values written in.
Can a trust really last 1,000 years?
Wyoming Statute § 34-1-139 allows a qualifying trust to continue for 1,000 years. The trust must have a trustee with a qualifying Wyoming connection. In the Family Legacy Trust, the trust is domiciled in Wyoming. In the Dynasty Architecture, the family's own Wyoming Private Family Trust Company serves as that Wyoming trustee.
How is this different from a LegalZoom living trust?
Online living-trust products are typically revocable and designed to organize assets within one lifetime at low cost. They offer minimum protection, no generational legacy transfer, for a cheap price.
The Family Legacy Trust is irrevocable and designed for multi-generational stewardship, with family governance, spendthrift provisions, and optional family-specific riders at the core of the architecture. Ours is done for you and wrapped in a beautiful leather-bound heirloom embossed with your trust name and seal.
If you’re looking for something low cost, we recommend our Trust Creation Course. For the same low cost as a LegalZoom template you can learn how to create your own Family Legacy Trust and get much better protection.
Why is it so much less than a dynasty trust from a specialist firm?
Because specialist firms cater to the ultra-high net worth customer who will pay exorbitant fees. Specialist firms commonly charge $20,000 to $75,000 to set up a dynasty trust, plus yearly administration, because they can sell personalized legal and trustee services to very large estates. The actual work does not cost that much. The Spacious Place provides education, trust architecture design, and done-for-you document preparation, and the family serves as its own steward, which lets us price the full Dynasty Architecture at $6,500.
Do I have to put my assets in the trust now?
That is the heart of it. A Family Legacy Trust does its work when it is funded, so families move chosen assets in during life. Real estate, business interests, accounts, and digital assets each move a little differently, and many families fund in stages, starting with what they can steward well.
Is a Family Legacy Trust only for wealthy families?
No. It was designed for everyday families, including homeowners, fathers and mothers, small-business owners, and families with digital assets. At today's $15 million per-person federal estate tax exemption, most families build one for stewardship and continuity rather than tax reasons.
Who serves as trustee of a Family Legacy Trust?
In most families the founding Settlors serve as the first trustees, as fiduciaries for the family rather than as owners. The written succession plan names who steps in next: adult offspring, then grandchildren, and each generation after. In the Dynasty Architecture, the family's own Wyoming Private Family Trust Company is set up to serve as the Wyoming trustee.
Can a Family Legacy Trust be changed later?
Yes, within the boundaries of its provisions. Irrevocable means no one outside the family can unwrite it; it does not mean frozen. The terms can be modified by the board of sacred stewards or the consent of all qualified beneficiaries, and the board can decant assets into a new trust. Each family can also add its own provisions through the Custom Private Family-Specific Amendment Rider.
What does it cost each year after setup?
The Family Legacy Trust's Wyoming trust address renews at $98 a year after the first 12 months. A Wyoming Digital Asset LLC adds $49 a year for the registered agent and $60 a year for the Wyoming Secretary of State. The Dynasty Architecture runs approximately $158 a year for the registered agent and Wyoming Secretary of State service. You receive these bills directly from the providers, or we handle them for members of our stewardship circle.
What if I am single or have no offspring yet?
You do not have to wait. The Founder No Descendants Yet Rider uses a Beneficiary Waterfall that adapts as your life progresses, with provisions for a future spouse and for failure of issue.
Is this legal advice?
No. The Spacious Place provides education, trust architecture design, and document preparation only. This is not legal advice.
